Zinhle Nqkayi, the former secretary of Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge.
The Judicial Conduct Tribunal probing sexual harassment allegations against Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge continues on Thursday at 9:30 am with the cross-examination of Judge’s former secretary Zintle Nkqayi.
Nkqayi was the first witness called by the top Judge after Evidence Leader, Advocate Salome Scheepers, closed her case earlier this week.
Her evidence has been mainly focused on the alleged in-person interactions that Judge’s Secretary Andiswa Mengo testified she experienced allegedly at the hands of the Judge President.
Nkqayi, who was the top Judge’s secretary at the time, has provided evidence that is contrary to Andiswa Mengo and seemingly may cast doubts on Mengo’s testimony.
This is in relation to the allegation that Mengo was called to the Judge President’s chambers and was allegedly asked to perform a sexual act, and the allegation that Mengo saw the Judge President hugging the court manager.
The landmark probe is tasked with investigating a complaint by Mengo, who alleges that she was sexually harassed by Mbenenge through the form of in-person interactions and electronic communications between the period of June 2021 and November 2022.
Mbenenge denies the allegation.
