The City of Ekurhuleni says it is deeply shocked and saddened by the murder of its forensic audit head, Mpho Mafole.
Mafole was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting on the R23 in Kempton Park, East of Johannesburg, on Monday.
The motive for his killing is being investigated by the police.
Mafole was driving on the R23 in Kempton Park at about 18:00 in the evening when he was fatally wounded.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says they found the victim lying in his car with gunshot wounds.
“According to information received, the victim was driving on R23 Road when he was shot by an unknown suspect. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage, and police investigations continue.”
The City of Ekurhuleni says it is cooperating fully with police to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
