The Randburg Magistrates’ Court
The Randburg Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg will today hear the bail application of 12 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members accused of killing Hawks Specialist Investigator, Lieutenant-Colonel Frans Mathipa.
He was shot and killed while travelling on the N1 near Hammanskraal in August 2023.
At the time of his death, Mathipa was investigating allegations that members of the SANDF Special Task Forces Unit abducted an Ethiopian businessman and suspected ISIS leader from the Mall of Africa in Midrand in 2022.
The men, who are members of the SANDF, made a brief appearance at the court last week Monday.
A retired general is among the 12 accused persons.
They face charges of kidnapping, murder, theft of a motor vehicle and fraud. None of the accused could be identified last week as they had to undergo an identity parade.
The matter was postponed to today for their bail application.
