Truck driver found with explosives at Beitbridge to apply for bail

A 42-year-old truck driver accused of possession of explosives is expected to continue his bail application in the Musina Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on Monday.

The truck driver was arrested last week at the Beitbridge border post in Musina.

Authorities allege that explosives valued at around one million rand were found concealed in a compartment in the trailer of his truck, which was entering South Africa from Zimbabwe.

The arrest was carried out during a joint operation involving the Border Management Authority and other border officials.

The BMA believes the explosives were being smuggled into the country for use in cash-in-transit robberies and illegal mining activities.

The items seized include blasting cartridges, detonators and fuse reels.

Maroto remains in custody and is expected to apply for bail.
