The Northern Cape Red Meat Producers Organisation says the recent floods in Kuruman have negatively affected the meat industry.
Producers are unable to reach their livestock in some parts of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, where roads are inaccessible.
The organisation’s provincial Manager, Yolanda Botha says, “It is terrible because so many access roads in John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) have been washed away. You can’t get into that area, and you can’t get out. That’s for farming sectors and even business sectors. A road between Kimberley and Kuruman, even mining trucks, you can’t drive on that road with a car anymore. I think we need to take a look into that area and give them support because they are basically cut off.”
