Mogane quizzed on Aeroton drug bust at Madlanga Inquiry

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has questioned the Commander of the Crime Information Management and Analysis Centre (CIMAC) at Zonkizizwe Police Station in Gauteng, Warrant Officer Marumo Magane, about his role in the 2021 Aeroton drug bust in Johannesburg.

Magane was one of the first police officers to arrive at Yellow Jersey Logistics in Roodekop, Ekurhuleni, where a truck carrying a 715kg cocaine consignment was believed to be stationed.

During his testimony, Magane told the Commission that part of his duties included interviewing suspects arrested for serious crimes.

When questioned by Commissioner Sesi Baloyi about how the request to assist at the crime scene fell within his duties, Magane told the Commission that it did not fall within his responsibilities.

Magane also agrees that he was not supposed to be part of the search operation as his duties are office-bound.
