KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma says his department will continue to fight corruption in the issuing of driver’s licences.
The department is considering introducing an initiative to fight what it describes as criminal syndicates.
Duma says they are seeking to encourage those who obtained licences fraudulently to come forward.
“We have come up with a strategy of an amnesty if you could come in front, that you are so and so, you were issued with this from this station, is something that is going to be appreciated. Historically, there were some stations that have been closed in the past because of wrongdoing. We want to ensure that we pull the process in terms of formulation and that someone is able to drive, is someone who is ready, who is driving properly, someone who is fit and proper in this process.”
