Gauteng Hawks Head Ebrahim Kadwa and Senior Crime Intelligence Officer Feroz Khan appearing before the Kempton Park Magistrates Court
The matter involving Gauteng Hawks Head Ebrahim Kadwa, Senior Crime Intelligence Officer Feroz Khan and Durban businessman Tariq Downes has been postponed to July 14 for further investigations.
The three accused appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court, where they were granted bail of R20 000 each after being arrested on Sunday.
They face charges relating to the illegal dealing and unlawful possession of precious metals, illicit precious metals transactions and corruption.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says investigations revealed concerns around the transportation of precious metals and the status of the third accused.
“For you to be carrying precious metals, you must have permits in place. And at that time, the suspect, the third accused, did not have that required documentation. At the time, the Hawks officers and the police officers present realised that he was not a member of the South African Police Service because, like I’ve indicated, for you to be a police agent and to undergo undercover operations, you must be an SAPS officer and a court must have granted you and authorised you to undergo an undercover operation. We then realised, as well at the time that he was not an informer because for you to become an informer, you must be registered by the SAPS.”
