Judge Ledwaba denies any wrongdoing in granting Katiso Molefe bail

Gauteng Deputy Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba says there was no wrongdoing on his part in the alleged cartel member Katiso “KT” Molefe bail matter.

Ledwaba, who is being interviewed for the post of judge President of the Gauteng High Court division, told the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in Sandton on Tuesday that he was simply filling in as the court was short staffed.

Ledwaba’s reputation has been shrouded by speculation amid alleged impropriety surrounding Molefe’s bail matter that came out of the Madlanga commission.

When questioned by the JSC, he says that he accepted no money when presiding over the matter.

“I did not take any money in respect of this bail application. I did not know Mr Molefe at all. I have never met him. I dealt with this matter in the ordinary course of my duties. And while I dealt with that matter, all bail appeals are regarded as urgent. Hence, I’m saying there were two bail applications that needed attention during recess, and there was no judge who was available that I could allocate this matter to. And it was not the first time that I would deal with the bail application of applicants.”
