The late Nhlamulo Sambo who was allegedly mistaken for an undocumented foreign national
The Afrika Mayibuye Movement has condemned the killing of a Xitsonga-speaking 19-year-old man from Giyani in Limpopo.
Nhlamulo Sambo was allegedly mistaken for an undocumented foreign national during protests in the Western Cape.
The Movement describes the killing as a failure of society.
It says it rejects violence as well as vigilantism and will not associate with groups using immigration concerns to justify criminal acts.
The movement’s national spokesperson, Sidney Baloyi, says people need to understand that South Africa is a country of multiple languages.
“The whole thing about xenophobia, vigilantism, these are the challenges that South Africans have been experiencing quite a lot. It’s something that we feel that requires intervention. It requires education. It requires people to understand that our country is a country of multiple languages, of multiple cultures, of people who are actually one thing. We are gravely hurt by what has happened to Nhlamulo.”
