Warrant Officer Karl Sander from the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal testifies before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on 01 June 2026.
A Warrant Officer attached to the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal says intelligence officers do not generally engage in processing crime scenes.
Karl Sander is back to testify at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria.
He says if intelligence officers were to participate in crime scene processing, their identities would be exposed.
Sander, who has extensive experience in drug bust operations, has focused on processes that police officers need to follow when called to crime scenes which have illegal drugs.
“We do have Crime Intelligence operatives that will come and observe what is happening. There’s a reason for that. They’ve got to do feedback on their protocols that need to be observed. But there are also times when the information is passed to you where the operative doesn’t want to be there. They’re ghosts. So they don’t want to be seen or located there,” explains Sander.
