The UN says five South African soldiers are facing allegations of sexual misconduct in the DRC for the abuse of four adults and a minor between 2014 and 2016.
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) says it met with the families of the 14 soldiers who lost their lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo on the logistics of handing over their remains on Thursday evening.
The SANDF says arrangements have been put in place for families to receive the bodies of their loved ones.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to attend the memorial service and handover ceremony of the fallen heroes on Thursday at 6pm.

Prince Tshabalala from the SANDF Directorate for Corporate Communication says, “The fallen heroes will arrive today, and then once they’ve arrived, we will actually start with the handing over of the mortal remains to hand them over to the families today at 6 pm at Airforce base Swartkop. The National Defence Force has a system, where all families are informed about the arrangements and we had a briefing with the families last night, where we informed them about all the processes that will take place.”
