Kaizer Chiefs Luke Fleurs murder trial continues in court

The murder trial of football club Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs is expected to be heard today following a postponement. This is to allow the National Prosecuting Authority to finalise drafting its indictment.

The trial was initially held before the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, west of Johannesburg BUT is now set to proceed to the High Court, Following an announcement by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Fleurs was fatally shot in April last year, during a hijacking at a petrol station in Honeydew, Johannesburg.

Six suspects were arrested in Slovoloville, Soweto, within days following his shooting.

Suspects were charged with murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and defeating the ends of justice.

The NPA is expected to have finalised its indictment. Throughout court proceedings, the six accused have been denied bail and remain in custody.
