South African Football Association President, Danny Jordaan.
South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan could be fighting for his football survival on Saturday.
A SAFA National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting is scheduled to take place and it’s expected some members will propose he steps aside.
Saturday’s NEC meeting will be the first since Jordaan’s court appearances late last year on charges of theft and fraud.
There are NEC members who are lobbying to have Jordaan removed and replaced by PSL Chairman Irvin Khoza on an interim basis.
What counts in their favour is one of Jordaan’s bail conditions forbids him from making direct or indirect contact with any witnesses and some NEC members are on the witness list.
But Jordaan has relied on loyal support throughout his tenure as SAFA President, people who benefited one way or another. And they are likely to counter any planned revolution.
The agenda for the meeting that will take place at a hotel at the OR Tambo International Airport, has not yet been disclosed.
