The South African Women’s Under-19 cricket team started its ICC T20 World Cup campaign in Malaysia with a victory.
The Baby Proteas beat New Zealand by 22 runs in a Group C match in Kuching.
South Africa batted first in the match reduced to 11 overs per side and posted 91 for seven.
Opening batter Jemma Botha top scored with 32 off 24 balls.
The Proteas then restricted the Kiwis to 69 for five in their 11 overs.
Monalisa Legodi was South Africa’s most successful bowler and finished with figures of two for eight in two overs.
The Proteas’ next match is against Samoa on Monday.
