SA’s Lategan back in Dakar lead

Reigning South African Cross Country Champion, Henk Lategan and his navigator Brett Cummings are back in the lead after the 10th stage of the toughest off-road event in the world, the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia.

Lategan and Cummings in their Toyota Gazoo Racing Hilux, finished 11th in a stage for a second consecutive day, this time between Haradh and Shubaytah.

They completed the 120-kilometer timed section in two hours, 15 minutes and 54 seconds, 14 and a half minutes quicker than Yazeed Al Rajhi and his German navigator, Timo Gottschalk of Team Overdrive Racing who held the overnight lead.

Al Rajhi and Gottschalk crossed the finish line in 27th place to drop back to second overall, two minutes and 27 seconds behind Lategan and Cummings.

The stage was won by Spaniards Nani Roma and Alex Haro in a Ford M-Sport.
