Two Betway Premiership fixtures in Polokwane, Limpopo this weekend have been moved from the new Peter Mokaba Stadium to the old Peter Mokaba Stadium due to an unusable pitch.

The pitch of the new Peter Mokaba Stadium was left severely damaged after a music festival last Saturday.

Sekhukhune FC is scheduled to play against Marumo Gallants FC on Saturday. Magesi FC is set to host Orlando Pirates FC on Sunday at the stadium.

Polokwane Municipality executive Mayor John Mpe says they will need at least one month to rehabilitate the damaged pitch. Mpe says the stadium management and event organisers will be held accountable for negligence.

“We have got damage on our pitch; obviously, management will have to be accountable because we have agreed from the onset that the pitch will be covered. Peter Mokaba has been holding major events, and we have never had a problem, but however, the pitch was not fully covered, and for that, obviously, the management of the stadium will have to be held accountable and the organiser will have to be held responsible, it is a damage that will cost us a month to repair.”

Mpe adds that about R1 million will be needed for the restoration of the pitch.

“Amount will be an excess of a million just above a million from those who have been working There is going to be, of course, a costly exercise, but we don’t want to overestimate or underestimate. Let us get the final costing from the management and then we will be able to deal with the fact that we are not in the business of making profit in any events,” says Mpe.
