The South African women’s cricket has found the going tough on the opening day of the one-off test match against England in Bloemfontein — the Proteas’ first test match on home soil in more than two decades.
England won the toss and decided to bat first. After centuries by opening batter Tammy Beaumont and Nat Sciver-Brunt, the visitors declared their first innings closed on 395 for the loss of nine wickets.
Left-arm spinner, Nonkululeko Mlaba, led a South African fight back late in the day and finished with figures of four for 90 in 20 overs.
In reply, the Proteas were on 17 without loss at stumps.
