South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka as well as the upcoming all-format tour against Pakistan due to a groin injury.
The 24-year-old experienced discomfort while bowling on day four of the first Test at Kingsmead in Durban on Saturday.
Results of the scan revealed a right groin muscle strain.
The promising paceman will now face a recovery period is estimated to be between four to six weeks.
He’s replaced by another promising bowler, 18-year-old Kwena Maphaka, who is uncapped.
The second Test will be played at St George’s Park in Gqeberha and starts on Thursday.
