South Africa’s reign as Dubai Sevens champions has come to an end.

The Blitzboks, who have won the last five tournaments in the United Arab Emirates, were beaten 24-17 in the quarterfinal by New Zealand who outscored their opponents by four tries to three.

The teams were tied at seven-all at half-time.

It was the All Blacks’ first victory in eight matches over the Blitzboks in the desert and a record 200th Cup quarterfinal appearance in World Rugby’s Sevens Series.
