SABC welcomes Press Council ruling against Sunday Times and TimesLive

The SABC has welcomed the Press Council’s ruling in favour of the national broadcaster in relation to its complaint against The Sunday Times and TimesLive.

The complaint related to articles alleging that the SABC had decided not to renew its talk show, Face the Nation, following pressure from the ANC and government officials.

The Press Council found that the two publications breached key provisions in the Press Code by presenting allegations as facts in their headlines and failing to report material information provided by the SABC regarding the programme’s performance and audience figures.

The Sunday Times and TimesLive have been ordered to apologise unconditionally, retract the offending statements and publish the figures provided by the SABC.
