Court to rule on Brown Mogotsi’s bail bid

The Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court is expected to rule on the bail application of alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi this Thursday morning.

The matter was heard twice last week after being postponed to allow investigators to verify Mogotsi’s residential address in Mahikeng, North West.

Mogotsi was arrested on 15 May and is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, defeating the ends of justice and perjury.

The charges relate to allegations that he staged an assassination attempt on his life in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, in November last year.

Verification of Mogotsi’s residential address remained a key issue during arguments presented by the State and the defence last week.

The State continues to oppose bail, while Mogotsi maintains his innocence and argues that the case against him is weak.

His legal team submitted that he can afford bail of R10 000, while the State argued that if bail is granted, it should be set at R100 000.
