Some undocumented immigrants say they’ve lost everything during the violence in Mossel Bay in the Western Cape last weekend.
Families were displaced following unrest linked to allegations of illegal immigration.
At least 55 structures were destroyed in the Asla Park informal settlement in KwaNonqaba, forcing many to flee.
Police in Mossel Bay are investigating the death of two people amid public unrest that followed a march against illegal immigrants on Friday. One person was discovered with multiple injuries at an informal settlement while another was declared dead in hospital. #sabcnews pic.twitter.com/JCGyjUC7wl

One of the displaced people, Silvino Chauque, says the attacks have affected both documented and undocumented migrants.
“These people they don’t care if you have documentation, an ID, they just come and hit everyone. They break everything, I’ve got nothing, I don’t even have clothes. The one I got is what I have here, I’m wearing it. It’s better we go back, we’re not safe here and I don’t think I will ever come back here.”
