Contingency plans in place for water maintenance: Gauteng Health

The Gauteng Health Department says arrangements have been made to ensure that there is water supply in Johannesburg hospitals as Rand Water starts with its planned maintenance.

Different areas across the city are expected to experience low pressure to no water during the maintenance period that started Friday.

Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says most of the hospitals have enough water capacity to last for two to three days.

“If you go to Bara, we have water tanks, we have also that facility that can take us two to three days and also we have an arrangement with Rand Water when coming to Bara to open a line directed to us so that we are not depleted. At Rahima Moosa, it can take us two days as well and we have tanks there. In the event we are depleted, there’s an arrangement with the municipality to deliver water. Helen Joseph, we have capacity there as well for over 48 hours, which the municipality will always be on standby to assist us with water.”
