Limpopo Transport leaders carried out an on-site inspection of an overloaded inter-provincial bus
Limpopo traffic officers have intercepted an overloaded bus on the N1 outside Polokwane. The bus, travelling from Malawi to Johannesburg has a carrying capacity of 70 passengers but 90 were on board.
Traffic authorities also say a passenger list has recorded 25 passengers. The bus driver has fled on foot, but an assistant driver is at the scene. Transport Department spokesperson Matome Taueatsoala says that police and immigration officers are processing the passengers.
The bus, certified to carry 70 passengers, was found transporting 90 people at the time of the stop. Alarmingly, the passenger manifest only reflected 25 passengers on board. @TransportLimCom
