Firefighters still battling Bain’s Kloof mountain blaze

Firefighters are still battling to contain the blaze on the mountain slopes near Bain’s Kloof in the Boland.

The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services say ground teams are making good progress despite the strong winds and challenging terrains.

Municipality Spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto says strong winds are preventing the use of aerial resources.

She says the predicted rainfall will assist firefighting operations.

“The right flank has been pushed back up the mountain, away from the pine plantation and is currently burning high up in the upper sections of the mountain where a ground team remains stationed. The left flank burned rapidly towards the roadway; however, firefighting teams were able to contain the fire line and prevent it from crossing the road. Fire Services will remain on the fire lines throughout the night and are hopeful that the predicted rainfall will assist firefighting operations.”
