A new defence witness has taken the stand in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial in the High Court Pretoria.
Sergeant Tintswalo Mudau, a police officer at Villieria Police Station in Pretoria, has been called to testify on behalf of accused number two Bongani Ntanzi.
She has testified about the procedure that is followed when a cellphone is confiscated from a suspect when they are detained. Mudau was questioned about the alleged recovery of a cellphone from Ntanzi during her shift.
She has told the court that she did not see the officers who allegedly recovered the device, adding that the cellphone should have been booked into evidence.
Sibanda: Are you aware a cellphone was sent to Middelburg for downloading?
Mudau: I don’t know my lord, and I did not even know that a cellphone was recovered.
Sibanda: And then you can confirm that he did not partake in the cell visit with Sergeant Mogane and Sergeant Mabena.
Mudau: Yes, I confirm.
