Impeachment Committee to be made up of 31 members

Political parties in Parliament have been asked to submit names of their members that will serve on the Impeachment Committee.

This, as Parliament rolls out the steps it outlined to establish this committee.

The establishment is the result of a Constitutional Court judgment last Friday.

The court ruled that Parliament should establish an Impeachment Committee for President Cyril Ramaphosa to answer to prima facie evidence about foreign currency stolen from his Phala Phala farm in 2020.

National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza met with chief whips of the different political parties today about the composition of the committee.

Parliamentary spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo says, “Following these engagements, political parties will be requested to submit the names of members who will serve on the committee to the National Assembly Secretariat by the close of business on Friday, 22 May 2026.

In determining the composition of the Impeachment Committee, the Speaker considered not only the constitutional principle of proportional representation, but also the need for inclusivity and broad participation in this unprecedented parliamentary process.”

The committee will consist of 31 members:

African National Congress nine members, the Democratic Alliance five, uMkhonto weSizwe Party three and Economic Freedom Fighters two.

There will be one member each from the remaining parties:
