The two accused have repeatedly alleged that they were assaulted and tortured by police following their arrests in May and June, that year. Thoka has testified that as station commander, part of his responsibilities included conducting regular inspections of holding cells and checking on the wellbeing of detainees.
Ntanzi and four others are on trial for the 2014 murder of former Bafana Bafana Captain, Senzo Meyiwa.
Thoka says during his interactions with the accused, neither appeared injured nor complained of being assaulted.
Legal counsel, Sipho Ramosepele asked Thoko, “In your observation, was there any suspect that appeared to have been injured or suffered a trauma in the previous 12 hours or so of your visit.”
Thoka replied, “No, if there was any observation from my side, I was going to give instructions to the captain who was on duty to give medical attention to the suspect. I didn’t see anything,”
