Cape Town disaster management on standby for weather-related issues

The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre says teams will be activated to respond to weather-related impacts.

This as the Western Cape anticipates heavy rainfall, damaging winds and rough sea conditions between Sunday and Tuesday.

Spokesperson Charlotte Powell says residents in flood-prone areas are urged to remain alert and avoid crossing flooded roads and low-lying bridges.

“The Disaster Coordinating Team will be activated to coordinate the city’s response to weather-related impacts. We urge the public to please follow official updates on social media and their preferred media channels closely to report any emergency incidents to the Public Emergency Communication Centre.”

Meanwhile, a 37-year old woman died after a tree fell on top of her vehicle in Knysna due to heavy rain, strong winds and localised flooding.
