Tolashe denies misleading Parliament about donation of vehicles

Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe says she has not misled Parliament in relation to the vehicles that were donated by the Chinese Embassy to the African National Congress Women’s League.

She is alleged to have registered the vehicles under her children’s names.

Tolashe appeared before the Portfolio Committee on Social Development on a range of issues involving her department which include forensic investigations into departmental appointments.

She requested the committee to wait until the outcome of the investigation of the Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interest.

“The cars were meant for the ANC Women’s League, not me – and this is why I did not declare then. I guess there is a perception that I misled Parliament, however, I want to state that I did not mislead Parliament. The matter now has been deposited to the ethics committee, and I have deposited my own affidavit to the ethics committee and I will request that we leave it there until it is concluded.”
