Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba has directed health authorities to expedite tests into an alleged food contamination incident at Mmotong-wa-Bogobe village.
Police and the provincial government say their records indicate three deaths linked to the incident, not six as previously reported.
Ramathuba, Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego, and Transport MEC Violet Mathye visited patients still receiving treatment at Lebowakgomo Hospital.
The premier says test results will help determine the cause of the alleged contamination.
Ramathuba says, “Now, where we are sitting, we can indicate to you that forensic pathology has started with their work to collect the stomach contents also for chemistry, so that we can test for any toxicology. On the other side, those who were still in our hospitals had their samples collected by the laboratory, and we are expecting the results.”
