Phala Phala farm theft accused back in court

The three accused in the theft of 580 000 US dollars from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm will on Friday be back in the Modimolle Regional Court in Limpopo.

The court is expected to rule on the defence lawyers’ application for the acquittal of the accused on the charges.

The lawyers have argued that the state has failed to link their clients to the break-in and theft in February 2020.

The accused are Imanuwela David, as well as the Joseph siblings – Froliana and Ndilinasho.

The accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges of housebreaking, theft and money laundering.

One of the accused, Froliana, was a former domestic worker at the farm; she’s suspected of tipping off the other accused about the presence of dollars hidden inside a sofa.

Magistrate Peter Manthata is expected to make a ruling on the application.
