JMPD officer shot dead in the Vaal

An off-duty Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer has been shot dead at Orange Farm in the Vaal. Thirty-year-old Lindani Maleka was killed shortly after arriving at a residence in Sizanani Street, Extension 6A.

Police believe the incident may have been a targeted killing.

Preliminary reports indicate that armed suspects forcibly removed his female companion before opening fire on him inside his vehicle.

He has appealed to the public for information to help track down the perpetrators.

“The department is devastated by this senseless act of violence. We lost not just a colleague but a protector of this city. Our deepest condolences go out to the Maleka family and his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We urge anyone with information regarding this incident or the identities of the suspects to come forward. Members of the public can contact the investigating team or provide anonymous tips via the SAPS crime stop at 08600 10111.
