DA must govern Johannesburg with outright majority: Zille

Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Council Chairperson and Johannesburg mayoral candidate, Helen Zille, says her party wants to govern the City of Johannesburg with an outright majority.

She says she doesn’t want a coalition government because of its instability.

Zille was on the campaign trail in Dobsonville in Soweto where the party welcomed 50 members, some of whom claim to be from ActionSA.

South Africans are expected to go to the polls in local government elections in November.

Zille was asked during the campaigning whether her party was open to working with the African National Congress (ANC) in Johannesburg.

“We are going to work now until elections to convince people that the DA can fix Johannesburg. We will convince them to vote for us. We cannot get into government in a shaky coalition. We need to be big and strong in order to fix Johannesburg.”
