Suspended Ekurhuleni HR Manager Linda Gxasheka has confirmed at the Madlanga Commission that former City Manager Dr Imogen Mashazi instructed her to stop currently suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department Deputy Commissioner Julius Mkhwanazi’s redeployment.
Gxasheka returns to the stand on Friday.
Suspended Ekurhuleni police chief Jabulani Mapiyeye wanted Mkhwanazi to be redeployed to a different department when his suspension was lifted.
Gxasheka, who has completed day one of her testimony told the Commission evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson and Commissioner Sesi Baloyi that Mashazi instructed her to fix the Mkhwanazi redeployment issue.
“Again, the moving of Deputy Chief of Police, Mkhwanazi, to another division was done by Chief. So, the debate and the engagement we have is, why did I allow that to happen?”
“So, were you given an instruction? You must attend to it. You must put this right.”
“Yes. I just have to clarify. So, the instruction from Dr. Mashazi was stop this. Stop this redeployment.”
“Is that what you’re saying?”
“Yes. Address it.”
