Portfolio Committee raises concern over delays in Mpumalanga hospital

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Health has raised concerns about the delays in the completion of the new Mapulaneng Hospital in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.

The hospital was scheduled to be completed last June.

The portfolio committee visited the old Mapulaneng Hospital as part of its oversight visits in areas that have been affected by the recent floods in the province.

Committee Chairperson Faith Muthambi says, “And we’re worried now that the main contractor has been place under business rescue. But they’ve assured us that come July, the hospital will be completed. And we still wait and see indeed if that will happen because in this hospital, nothing seems to be working.”

“The hospital is old … I think it’s back date as far as 1936. And they are telling us that they’ve decided not to upgrade here because they are moving to the new hospital.”
