Accused in Phala Phala theft case bought R1m house, court hears


The Modimolle Regional Court in Limpopo has heard that one of the accused in the Phala Phala farm theft trial has paid about a million rand to buy a house in North West.

First accused Imanuwela David bought the property in Rustenburg after the theft of 580 000 US dollars from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farm in Bela Bela in February 2020.

This is according to the investigating officer testifying in the trial.

David and Froliana and Ndilinasho Joseph are being tried for the theft of money that was hidden in a sofa in a house on the farm.

The investigating officer explained how David bought the house.

“The converyancing attorney that first received payment from Mr Immanuwela David, from a FNB account, was Grobler … the account received three accounts from Immanuwela account and his FNB account amounting to R1 million six thousand and seventy cent,” says the investigating officer.

The court also heard that David received funds amounting to R9 million between the 3rd and the 31st of May 2020.
