Fire damage at Paarl Hospital
Police have arrested a suspect, who is allegedly responsible for the fire at the Paarl Provincial Hospital on Tuesday.
Health authorities say the Outpatient Department sustained extensive damage. Maternity patients had to be evacuated to nearby facilities. A small section of the hospital was affected.
Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala says no injuries were reported.
“A 35-year-old male suspect was apprehended for questioning and later detained. He will appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 29 January 2026. No injuries were reported, all patients safely evacuated the building. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.”
