Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) chief executive Themba Mathibe.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Johannesburg, says it feels vindicated in questioning the appointment of Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) chief executive Themba Mathibe.
This follows Mathibe’s reported arrest, amid allegations of contract irregularities and corruption.
The arrest follows a raid at the offices of the Johannesburg Social Housing Company (Joshco) on Monday.
Joshco has confirmed the operation but hasn’t disclosed any details about arrests.
Authorities reportedly found over a million rand in cash at Mathibe’s premises.
Mathibe, who previously served as Joshco’s Chief Operations Officer, was appointed JDA CEO in 2024- despite opposition from the DA.
DA Shadow MMC for Development Planning in Johannesburg, Daniel Schay.
“At this stage, what’s known publicly is very limited- but we know there was a raid at the Joshco offices, and we know that it was quite a serious operation in terms of scale- and that obviously does raise serious questions governance at Joshco and JDA. We need to have obviously whistleblower protection, and I think what we’ve made obvious in the years- we need a clear end to cadre deployment – that’s how we keep the city moving, and the right people in the right place, and that’s what will also make Joburg work.”
The EFF notes without shock, reports of the Arrest of Themba Mathibe, Chief Executive Officer of the Johannesburg Development Agency(JDA).
