The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it welcomes confirmation by President Cyril Ramaphosa that the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is still probing alleged academic fraud at the University of Fort Hare in the Eastern Cape.
The party says it wants a speedy resolution to allegations that Premier Oscar Mabuyane, former Public Service and Administration Minister Noxolo Kiviet and Buffalo City Executive Mayor Princess Faku allegedly enrolled for their qualifications irregularly.
Mabuyane has filed a defamation application against EFF leader Julius Malema for making the allegations as fact in public.
The party’s spokesperson Sinawo Thambo says they want the SIU investigation completed soon.
“ The President of the Republic of South Africa has affirmed the view of the EFF that the SIU investigation is still ongoing and in fact there was an extended proclamation in 2024 which extended the scope of the probe by the SIU into academic fraud at the university which ensures that all of those implicated can be probed and held accountable.”
