KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head General Lesetja Senona gives testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria on January 27, 2026.
Madlanga Commission evidence leader Advocate Adila Hassim has raised questions about why Vusumuzi “Cat” Matlala was comfortable in sharing internal SAPS information with KZN Hawks Head, General Lesetja Senona.
A WhatsApp exchange between Matlala and General Senona shows a video about non-performance of service providers.
“Mr. Matlala sends you this video clip, comfortably knowing that he need not fear any consequence of sharing this kind of information with you because you wouldn’t report it to anyone, even though he should not be in possession of it. He felt safe that you would not question how he came to be in possession of that video clip. What do you say to that?”
However, General Senona has maintained to Advocate Hassim that he does not know why Matlala sent him the video.
“I don’t know how he felt, but he just sent it to me and he didn’t make it up what exactly this thing is.”
