Europe provides opportunity for Springboks team to build depth: Coach

The Springbok rugby coaching staff are confident that the year-end European tour will provide another opportunity for the national men’s team to build depth and experience with an eye on the next Rugby World Cup.

Rassie Erasmus surprised fans and pundits with some of the inexperienced players who got called up as replacements for injured players, but it’s all part of the strategy to create a big pool of 1st choice players.

Assistant coach Deon Davids says all parties within SA Rugby are on board with this.

Meanwhile, Springbok players previously said they are not phased by the injury-forced changes to the touring squad for the test matches in the United Kingdom.

Bok coach Rassie Erasmus has had to make three changes so far due to injury and it is not always a like-for-like change, with the latest casualty Frans Malherbe, a prop, being replaced by Jordan Hendrickse, a flyhalf.

Bok prop Thomas Du Toit, says the players trust the process of the coaching staff.

He was speaking from Jersey ahead of the Boks first test against Scotland in Edinburgh next Sunday evening.
