Two of the accused in the Meyiwa murder trial
The defence in the Senzo Meyiwa trial is expected to call a new witness after Sifiso Gwabini Zungu concluded his testimony on Thursday.
Zungu had been testifying at the High Court in Pretoria, where five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.
He has denied hosting a gathering in Vosloorus on Gauteng’s East Rand, where all five accused were allegedly spotted the day of the murder.
In response to questions by one of the defence lawyers, Zithulele Nxumalo, Zungu also refuted claims by state key witness Constable Sizwe Zungu that he was handed firearms after the alleged contract killing.
Zithulele Nxumalo asked Zungu, in Exhibit ZZ(5), where it states that he was in his room.
He put it to Zungu that he was present when the accused handed over a 9mm and a 38 Special revolver.
Zungu denied this, and Nxumalo further questioned him about the firearms.
“Is there anywhere, in the statement, where it says that on the 26th of October 2014, accused number two, and accused number three, were in possession of a firearm in your hostel, in your room, at Basotho hostel.”
Zungu said no, nowhere.
