Students listening to a lecture.
The Higher Education Department has again warned the matric Class of 2025 to beware of bogus colleges.
It says some are using fake promises and unaccredited courses to exploit desperate students during results season.
The department earlier issued a nationwide warning against proceeding to register without verifying institutions.
The department’s Deputy Minister Doctor Mimmy Gondwe says, “These colleges thrive; they pretend to be legitimate; they also entice students and parents by offering huge discounts, programs or qualifications that appear to be high in demand and can be completed quickly. They also entice or lure desperate students and parents by offering huge discounts. They also advertise low entrance requirements now that some of these institutions have an online presence and they claim to offer qualifications that are recognized outside of the country. So, we want to really plead with parents and students to say stay away from the bogus one. How we can verify, you can visit our website www.dhet.gov.za.”
