ActionSA has introduced the Fallen Whistleblowers Bill, aimed at protecting those who expose corruption.
The party says the bill is a response to the government’s failure to tackle corruption, which it says has severe consequences for South Africans.
ActionSA says whistleblowers have been targeted and even killed for speaking out against corruption, citing cases like Babita Deokran and Marumo Eric Phenya.
ActionSA Member of Parliament, Malebo Kobe says, “What our bill intends to do, is that anybody with the information that goes to any law enforcement authority, their names would be sealed- the contents of their whistle blowing is what will be made public. However, their names are not allowed to be made public knowledge. The only way that you can obtain their name or know who exactly who the whistle blower is, is through a court order.”
