Bail bid resumes for two accused in Mark Lifman murder case

A new bail application of the two men accused of killing alleged underworld boss Mark Lifman will be heard today in the Thembalethu Regional Court in George.

Johan Jacobs and Gert Bezuidenhout are charged with gunning down Lifman at the Garden Route Mall in November 2024.

The accused were denied bail in the initial application in January last year.

Yesterday, their defence attorneys read their affidavits citing new facts, including alleged unjustified solitary confinement and the state’s misleading of the court.

The State, however, put forward affidavits from investigating officers disputing the claims.

The state maintains that the accused are a flight risk and would interfere with witnesses.
