Crime Intelligence Head, Dumisani Khumalo says when he was appointed to lead the division, he found abuse of funds, fraud and corrupt practices.
Khumalo is appearing before the Ad Hoc Committee probing allegations of criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system.
He is also the Project Manager for the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) which Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu tried to disband at the end of 2024.
Khumalo says the division was riddled with maladministration.
“There was also a problem of outdated and non-existing physical, human and financial control measures. It was a free for all environment. The irregular appointments of relatives and friends of SMS or of management – the famous one was the appointment of the 250, under the disguise of being agents. And also the failure to implement consequence management against senior management.”
