Ramaphosa to attend Bafana Bafana-Mexico 2026 World Cup opener

President Cyril Ramaphosa says he will attend the opening match of the tournament featuring Bafana Bafana and Mexico in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says his team will target a third-place finish in Group A in the tournament, which will take place in the US, Mexico and Canada.

South Africa has been drawn against hosts Mexico, South Korea and the winner between Denmark, Ireland, the Czech Republic and North Macedonia.

Ramaphosa says he will go to give Bafana some moral support.

The two top teams will progress to the last 32nd round, while the eight best third-placed teams across the twelve groups will join them in the knockout stage. – Reporting by Vincent Sitsula
