State Security officials accused of misusing state funds out on bail


Two former State Security Agency employees will be back in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria on January 26, 2026.

Former project manager Patrick Mshothola and former Deputy Director for Counterintelligence, Thulani Dlomo, appeared in court on Monday and they were granted bail of R20 000 each.

Mshothola and Dlomo were arrested on Sunday for allegedly misappropriating about R12 million in state funds.

They are facing charges including theft, fraud, and forgery.

Investigative Directorate Against Corruption spokesperson, Henry Mamothane says, “The case against two former State Security Agency employees who are facing 4 charges that include theft, fraud, forgery and uttering was postponed to 26 January 2026 for the disclosure of the indictment and a High Court date to which the matter can be transferred.”

“Patrick Mshotola, together with Thulani Dlomo, allegedly acted in common purpose in the misappropriation of approximately R12 million belonging to the State Security Agency during their tenure as employees of the agency. They were both granted 20,000 rands bail with stringent conditions attached.”
